ED panelist at Minnesota Assessment Conference

MMEP provides expert leadership in shaping education policy

 

August 5, 2010: Carlos Mariani Rosa, executive director, MMEP, participated as a panelist at the Minnesota Assessment Conference presented by the Minnesota Department of Education [MDE].

 

Dr. Jon S. Twing, executive vice president, Pearson Assessment & Information, led Carlos and other panel members in an exploration of, “The Future of Statewide Assessment in the Common Core Era.” Fellow panelists included Cyndy Crist, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities; Marty Gaslin, St. Paul Public Schools; Michael Rusinko, Minnesota Business Partnership; and Charles Wiger, Minnesota State Senator. Education Commissioner Alice Seagren provided the summation.

 

Emerging national education reform efforts have included strong emphasis on structuring K-12 education and designing accountability systems that are equitable for all students, especially students of color. “I approach policy from a race equity perspective focused on how young people can receive a high quality education.” Carlos continued, “Racial equity in education outcomes has been MMEP’s mission since its inception in 1987. The organization will continue to lead in shaping education policy that sets high standards for all students and will lead to increasing academic success for students of color.”
