Carlos Mariani Rosa, executive director, MMEP, was appointed to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities [MnSCU] Search Advisory Committee. The Committee will be responsible for identifying candidates for chancellor. Current Chancellor James McCormick has indicated he will retire when his contract expires in August 2011. Carlos joins 15 others representatives from the community-at-large, business, students, trustees, state college and university presidents, and the system’s bargaining units.

Carlos observed, “Fortunately, we have a strong foundation prepared at MnSCU under the leadership of Jim McCormick from which we can build even more creative and assertive policies and practices that make educational opportunities a stronger reality for all Minnesotans across race and income. We will need a chancellor unafraid to push the boundaries of college access and success to make that happen.”

MMEP will be forwarding ideas to MnSCU trustees on race equity leadership dynamics to consider as they select a new chancellor. The organization invites insights and advice as we fashion these suggestions. Look for idea solicitations from us soon.
