Philosophy

MMEP takes a systemic approach to its research philosophy and inquiry. We believe that schools and educational institutions are living systems, and thus see a connection between/among schools and the communities that they serve. We believe that the lifeblood of educational institutions are the thoughts, words, and actions of all those that make up its stakeholders because they give it life and purpose. The blending of thoughts, words, and actions bring about learning and renewal, if nurtured to foster transformation.

MMEP partners with clients and collaborators that want to be part of its multicultural learning collaborative and its transformative process. We begin our research process on the premise that we do not have all the answers. Nevertheless, we also acknowledge that after 20 years, and as the oldest multicultural education collaborative in the state of Minnesota we have acquired an expertise and knowledge area that is useful to fostering education equity. In the work that we do, it is clear that our partners are not the only ones that get transformed by the processes that we mutually initiate. Our research methods, strategies of engaging the community and our relationships with individuals and organizations that form part of our collaborative are constantly shaped by the value that each adds to our work.
