NdCAD

The Network for the Development of Children of African Descent (NdCAD) is a family education center based in St. Paul, Minn. They serve children, families and communities throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area, offering a variety of literacy and cultural enrichment programs and services for children, youth and adults.

 

Northside Achievement Zone
Inspired by the Harlem Children’s Zone, in late 2007 community organizations began to collaborate in order to safeguard and guarantee opportunities for children growing up in the northside of Minneapolis, an area impacted by crime, violence and poverty. Visit Northside Achievement.

 

WE WIN Institute, Inc.

WE WIN Institute, Inc. helps children create achievements. WE WIN’s programs are tailored to instill pride, confidence, academic as well as social skills in children by giving them knowledge and experiences, which honor and celebrate their cultural roots. They emphasize African history and culture, to create pride for children of African descent, yet; celebrate and welcome children of all cultures into their programs.

 

 

Initiatives

 

The Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE)

For nearly four decades ABFE has been a trailblazer for championing the interests of Black communities within the philanthropic sector. They also recognize that Black communities and the philanthropic leaders who serve those communities still face institutional and structural barriers that often hinder efforts to leverage philanthropy's powerful tools for positive, enduring social change.

    Stepping Up and Stepping Out profiles examples of philanthropic entities that have stepped up by making investments with a specific intent to create opportunities for black males in their respective communities.

 

Open Society Institute & Soros Foundations Network

The Open Society Institute's Campaign for Black Male Achievement aims to address black men and boys' exclusion from economic, social, educational, and political life in the United States.

 

Twenty-First Century Foundation (21CF)
The 21CF mission is to lead, innovate and influence giving for Black community change. As one of the few, endowed, Black foundations in the U.S., Twenty-First Century Foundation works to advance the welfare of the Black community through strategic and collective grantmaking; special initiatives and research; donor education and donor services.

  • Must have resource: Bring Your "A" Game
    To generate a national conversation on the plight of Black men and boys, 21CF has partnered with actor-director Mario Van Peebles to create a groundbreaking documentary film – Bring Your “A” Game – that uses screenings accompanied by community discussions as a catalyst to transform the lives of urban youth.

2025 BMB: Campaign for Black Men and Boys

To collaboratively develop and implement an initiative for the educational, social, emotional, physical, spiritual, political and economic development and empowerment of African descendant men and boys in the United States.

Black Male (a publication of the Foundation for the Mid South)

Published by the Foundation for the Mid South “Black Male: Why the Mid South Cannot Afford to Ignore the Disparities Facing its Black Men and Boys,” is an essay to facilitate dialogue on equity issues affecting African American males ages 16-44 in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Kirwin Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity

Established at The Ohio State University in May 2003, the focus of the Institute is national and global. Goals are approached with the understanding that all communities of people are interconnected and that by fostering positive relationships through research, scholarships and collaboration it is possible to deepen the possibility for change.

The Schott Foundation for Public Education

A web-based 50 state report on public education and Black males. This data portal provides parents, educators, media, policymakers, elected officials – and anyone who cares about education and equity – direct access to important, alarming date on the devastating reality of education for Black males across all 50 states.
