The staff of MMEP is a group of dedicated and passionate individuals who tirelessly pursue MMEP's mission to increase the success for students of color in Minnesota schools, colleges and universities. Each person has come to MMEP with his or her own unique style, expertise and character, enriching the flavor of the work of MMEP. The staff works in teams that focus its efforts on each program and overall organizational operations.

Members of MMEP's board of directors bring a multitude of perspectives representing Minnesota businesses, the public and private sector, secondary schools, higher education institutions and the community. The board meets bimonthly; the first meeting of the fiscal year falls in September and the final meeting in June.

Genesis Story of MMEP
mckinleyIn the fall of 1986, Arthur Himmelman, senior program officer with The McKnight Foundation, convened a meeting of three college presidents: Charles Anderson, Augsburg; Steven Lewis, Carleton; and Robert Gavin, Macalester to consider the impact of a three-year grant provided for scholarships to attract and retain students of color to their respective campuses.
